We've also added a bunch more features and fixes to the editor, and will keep going on that. Thanks for all your continueed support!

New Making History II 1.25 pre-release posted, glimmerings of an editor sighted...

Posted on Dec 02, 2011 at 03:55 PM by dave

We have updated the 1.25 pre-release with a few more fixes and the start of the editor! The editor's main value to users at this stage is that it automates the initial process of creating a mod from an existing scenario so you don't have to muck around with files and directories. It still only edits a few representative properties, but we are hard at work adding the rest of them. For now you will still have to edit most properties directly in XML. We anticipate releasing 1.25 some time next week (before the completion of the editor) because there are a number of improvements (especially on the Mac) that we want to get into players hands. But don't worry - we'll keep going on the editor. We see the light at the end of the tunnel!

Making History II Redux

Posted on Nov 09, 2011 at 03:00 PM by Chris

More than 16 months after its initial release, Making History II is finally in a place where we can say it's a solid game that we are proud of. Yes, we know there are still flaws. For many here in our MH community, who have been a part of its evolution both before and after its release, those flaws may be more obvious. It can be difficult at times to realize just how far the game has come when you've seen the improvements gradually over time. But more and more players are now seeing it and playing it in its present state for the first time are giving it really good reviews. And now that extends to the media. Since the Mac version and the 1.24 PC update, we've been circling back and requesting reviews from media who missed us at release. There are several in the works, and the first of these just went public--and it's a rave. Game Industry News has rated the game 4.5 out of 5, or 90%, and recommended it as Strategy Game of the Year! This, and other new reviews on the way, should finally put to rest the image tied to the old version that no longer exists. Instead, people can see the game that is much closer to the one we imagined during development: a unique Grand Strategy game that lets you experiment with a nation's economic, diplomatic and military elements and truly make your own history.

Thanks for being a part of our community, everyone. Here is the review:

Next up: an Editor that will allow for more original scenarios and content! Forward!

We've done some fixing and balancing based on your feedback on 1.24 and are posting an update for you to try (no editor yet though)! Lots of cleanup on air combat, added (fixed?) the ability for subs to patrol a region and attack any enemies that enter, and balancing work on diplomatic relations, stability, and more. Feedback on the changes (and anything else) would be greatly appreciated!

A basket of Making History II improvements

Posted on Sep 28, 2011 at 07:00 AM by dave

In the wake of the big 1.24 release we have made a number of small improvements to the game and the service. There was a small update to the game that should eliminate the "single unit kamikaze attacks" that the AI occasionally attempted. We also fixed a couple of issues in the multiplayer service that were causing problems with content versions and failed games. And finally, we've updated the Sandstone Player so that Steam users can now play on the multiplayer service using the version of the game installed by Steam, which should make that much easier for you. The game update has been tested at Steam and we're just waiting for them to push it live - I'll update the post when that happens.

We are now actively working on the 1.25 release (which includes the editor) and ramping up production on the next game in the series. We appreciate all your support and look forward to more to come!

UPDATE: 1.24 for Mac and Windows now live on Steam!!!

Making History II Pre-Release Beta version posted

Posted on Jul 07, 2011 at 01:00 PM by dave

We have posted a Beta version of the upcoming 1.24 release for people to try out. There were a lot of under the hood changes in this update as we added Mac support so we'd love to get feedback from you guys. There were also a lot of AI improvements, UI cleanup, a new manual, and even (finally) a role for Medical Centers! Full release notes here. One caveat is that when you have a pre-release update installed you will not be able to join multiplayer games on the website, since the website is using the currently released version.

To try this build out go to the Options page in the launcher and check the "Pre-Release Update" box. The launcher will immediately check for an update and keep you up to date as we go through testing. If at any time you want to go back to the released version of the game just uncheck the box. Thanks in advance for all your help!

UPDATE 7/25/11: The beta and the release notes have been updated!

UPDATE 8/8/11: New update!

UPDATE 8/9/11: New update again!
