Infantry in MHII
One of the most exciting changes for MHII is the variety of ground forces available to players. Infantry units, the backbone of any ground force, have expanded their tactical usage with new unit types. MHII gives players the option to customize their infantry to support nearly any military plan or counter any enemy strategy. Each nation will have access to seven types of infantry unit: Militia, Regular, Mounted, Airborne, Engineers, Marines, and Mountain troops.

MHII gives players the option to customize their infantry to support nearly any military plan or counter any enemy strategy. Each nation will have access to seven types of infantry unit: Militia, Regular, Mounted, Airborne, Engineers, Marines, and Mountain troops.
Militia units are often everyday citizens who are pressed into service in times of need. Cheap and fast to build, they are used as a last line of defense against invading forces, or as garrisons.
Regular Troops
Regular troops are the standard, trained infantry force. They are the least costly of all non-militia units and offer average combat and movement ability.
Mounted Troops
Mounted troops, still used in this era as mobile infantry forces, are faster than other regular infantry types.
Airborne Troops
Airborne troops are paratroopers able to drop directly into enemy territory. They provide unique tactical opportunities and are effective in the short-term, but may lose their combat effectiveness if isolated from allied supply.
Engineers
Engineers use their knowledge and tools to alter the battlefield with offensive, defensive and logistical advantages that will improve movement speed and combat power for troops crossing rivers and in mountains.
Marines
Marines are specialists in amphibious warfare and provide increased combat power during naval combat landings.
Mountain Troops
Mountain troops are trained and outfitted for rough terrain and gain bonuses to their combat and movement in mountainous regions.
Non-militia infantry in MHII can be upgraded to increase their effectiveness. City research projects will unlock up to 6 different upgrades representing advancements to the unit's weapons and equipment for each unit type. These improvements can be applied to units previously completed.
Deployed from cities, infantry units enter the game as green, untested troops. As they engage enemy units or capture enemy territory, they gain experience to grow in strength and effectiveness. Unit morale, influenced by combat outcome and national stability, can also impact effectiveness. If damaged, a unit loses combat power but can be reinforced. These distinct infantry types will incur varying deployment costs to reflect their advanced training and their offensive and movement capabilities. Additional research advancements will allow for more combat force options such as Motorized and Mechanized infantry.
Specialized infantry will offer MHII players a broader array of tactical options and threats. Understanding local terrain and enemy locations will influence long-term research goals and strategic planning.
To drop airborne troops you need planes. Planes (I assume) don't come with the unit. Like in real life you have to organise the air transport for your airborne troops. Will MH2 have transport planes, just like MH2 will have transport ships? Or do we need to give some bombers the order to transport Airborne Troops. Or do the Airborne Troops have their own planes they need?
I think something similar to the setup for ship transports would be the best for paratroopers. Have aircraft transports that can take paratroopers, but that could also be used to supply cut off units in an airlift (like Stalingrad although that didn't work out).
Another example of an airlift is the Berlin Air Lift.
I think that airborne units should require some sort of transport aircraft.
Also, may I suggest... Gliderborne troops?
We will have transport planes in MH2 that can be used to drop airborne units or just fly troops from one location to another.
Thats a good idea!
K thanks for answering my question :)
what about escorting the transport plane by regular fighter or another type of planes ? ?
Its a good choice of Infantry Units. Infantry the Queen of all weapons :)
But in MH1 I noticed that the Infantry Models didnt have a "idle" Animation... Will you give them in MH2 a Idle Animation like breathing to get out the frozen look! ?
the important thing is performance of the game , must be lite
You can group your transport planes with fighters to provide defense but that will limit the range.
Of the transport planes or the fighters?
@ cavetroll1304
my best guess is that your transport planes will have their range restricted by the range of the fighters.
good idea
A group always travels at the speed & distance of the slowest or shortest-ranged unit within the group.
So what is generally going to be the slower or "shortest-ranged" unit?
Will Transport Planes be upgradable to allow for longer ranges and/or better defense?
"Will Transport Planes be upgradable to allow for longer ranges and/or better defense?" Ideally yes but I'm not sure if the initial release will have this feature.
initial release ? no no ( mh 2 gold event after year )
Do all nations has their own infantry animation?
And will transport planes be in the same sction like transport ships?
I think they'll all have the same 3 animations like in MH1 : idle = doing nothing, marching and fighting. BTW giving the Models eg a breathing animation for idle shouldnt take as much performance....
@ liank.
"Do all nations has their own infantry animation"
my best guess is that the animation is the same, but the textures are different. because i don't think that it looks so much different from e.x Germany and America when they are marching in to battle.
(rly Of-Topic, but i have problem with Editing my Information, it says internal error 500 all the time.)
We re-use the animations for each model since they are doing identical movements. The skin or model is unique for many nations with further variations by infantry type.
Ok, thanks;) But have f.ex Norway and Sweden the same skin? Or do they have different?
is army would be naked !!! hahahaha
I haven't assigned models to Norway & Sweden yet. I'm hoping to have as much variety as possible but there will ultimately be some nations that will need to share models. We are after all offering about 180 unique nationalities.
ok thanks for the answer, this game is going to be great!
Just finished some Bulgarians, Serbs, Croatians, Albanians and Bosniacs today. On Monday I'll move on to Romanians, Greeks and Turks etc. We're going to have a lot of countries. The Swedes and Norwegians will likely get at least a unique infantry model. I won't be able to do all the special forces for every nation though.
can i interpret that as meaning that Bosniacs and Bosnian are going to be separate culture?
Bosniak is the ethnic group, Bosnian is just the standard demonym for someone living in Bosnia, whether they be a Bosniak, Serb, Croat, etc.
According to the 1931 census, the majority/dominant population in Bosnia and Herzegovina was Serbian. Since we do not show regional minorities MHII, the Muslim & Croatian groups will not be directly represented. Still it felt wrong to designate the region as purely Serbian, so I'm using the somewhat ambiguous term Bosnian as the ethnicity with Slavic culture and Orthodox religion.
Some of the Bosnian troops wlll wear the fez.
Will you be able to liberate Montenegro? And will there be a region for Kosovo?
Montenegro will be part of the Serbian nationality. A nation can be established there but it will be Serbian. Kosovo is claimed by both Serbia & Albania. The population of Kosovo will be Albanian.
Hey are the troops going to get sick or something? Because when the germans invaded russia their soilders got sick
