New 1.27 Pre-release...and it's all about you - UPDATE 5/9/12

Posted on May 04, 2012 at 11:40 AM by Chris

This is a HUGE update in terms of cool new things for you to play with. Virtually everything on this update list comes directly from community requests. You said "Make it so!" and we said "Aye Captain!" First we did something all of us have been wanting to do for a while--alter oil costs to make oil a more relevant part of the game. We also altered the costs of building and maintaining factories. Both of these things have been tested by us, but we are eager to see how you feel about them. Too much, not enough? We are trying to get optimal game balance and your feedback is critical here.

Next, a bunch of editor features have been added. Check out the Region Paint area and you will see a bunch of tabs have been added to set Religion, Culture, Ethnicity, Nationality, Historic Nations, and Colonies. You can set ethnicity in templates now, and alter model sets for nation templates. You can also set starting treasury amounts, and Regions can set unemployed MPU amounts. Any nation can immediately build Universities now. Much more! All as you requested. Enjoy!

UPDATE 5/9/12: Launcher bug that prevented loading saved games has been FIXED!! We also added yet more fixes to the editor, including a fix for research that prevents creating a new nation with no capital city and new nations can now set treasury amount. Also, an old architectural city type never developed (African) has been removed. NOTE: You will need to be certain "Client Process" is unchecked in the Options menu as we continue to make changes to the launcher.

Once again, thanks for your help and we apologize for the inconvenience you experience sometimes being to our "prereleasians" -- the "test pilots" who sometimes get the jets that crash. Our rapid development updates would not be possible without you!

kudos!

i wonder if it is possible to make the capital producing 1 Research, this would open the research tree for smaller nations at a slow pace.

and please make the AI creating puppet states on its own :D

I, too, am having trouble loading old games. And by old, I mean a game I started a few days ago. Any chance the versions could be made compatible?

Definitely a problem with saves. Looking at it right now.

OK, the problem was something broken in the launcher. It's fixed and we will make it live as soon as possible. Any saves you've made should be fine, the launcher just wasn't letting you load them. Sorry for any inconvenience this caused.

Will we be able to add cultures in the next update? Also, when will we be able to organize colonies in game?

After the update, when I go to load a past game and get to the nation select screen, game type has no options (Nation, Alliance, Ideology). When I start the game anyway, I get a black screen that eventually says something about a server losing contact. My new game I started since the game last week wouldn't load now is no longer working.

I cant start a new game or saved game. When ever i try to play, it starts loading then it goes to a black screen and says "lost connection to server... reconnecting" then it says "connection permanently lost" idk if its only me. strangely it happens although im playing in single player. not multiplayer.

Exact same thing here, for the record.

Can you try with Debugview open so we can see what's happening?

To fix the connection error, at the Main Menu screen, click Options and uncheck "Client Process". Click Save. That should solve the problem.

That last suggestion fixed the game loading problem. Only one small problem left, though it isn't really that consequential. For some reason, the game type (Nation, Alliance, Ideology) can't be selected when loading up the games. Not sure on new games, haven't tried. Besides that, Chris' suggestion worked, thanks.

Not a big deal, but the launcher crashes when I do the following:

Singleplayer > 1936 Scenario > Back out > Back to Singleplayer > 1936 Scenario

As soon as I click on 1936 the second time the launcher crashes. Not a big game-effecting bug but I just thought I'd report it anyways :)

Like the update! One small bug is that saved games from before and after the update cannot be deleted.

Does the update fix the problem with deleting nations?

Dreadnought MHII

I think that in addition to port and full military access you should add an air access option too. Also, I think that small AI nations should be more vulnerable to coercion. For instance, I think that countries like Oman and Qatar should be very pliable where an imperial power like Britain is concerned. I also think that one should be able to purchase regions with money instead of always having to trade for them.

I love this game, but I still have one thing to say. The AI is still stubborn. As Colombia, I have all of mainland Ecuador (and have for about a year now) and all they have left is the Galapagos, yet they still won't surrender! lol.

We should have a new pre-release build up later this week. We've been doing a lot of changes to the launcher that lead to some of the problems of the last couple builds. They are changes that have to be made but it's caused problems when we update to get you new features. To eliminate that, we have branched our launcher so we can use the one we know is solid while adding new content and features to the game and editor.

I think I will buy this game very soon. Maybe it has not been done yet, but I see that there is good communication flow between the community and developers and it gives me a hunch that this game will be a good one someday.

I will invest my 20 dollars in your project probably on Monday. If I the game is good enough I will recommend it to my friends and you will probably make more dollars.
