Small 1.28 update posted

Posted on Jan 02, 2013 at 11:00 AM by dave

We've posted an update to the 1.28 pre-release. Changes are mostly content balancing for arms/oil consumption, some unit tweaks, and AI work. We hope to have reduced some of the micromanagement from the naval gameplay introduced by the idle arms/oil feature - let us know what you think!

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but when I click on enemy infantry units that are stacked, I am able to merge their forces.

ariete MHII, MH GOLD

Never tried (was an inactive option) but would be usefull when the AI stackes piles of units disaggregated and is impossible to understand how many-what value they have in total.

Terrazakdel

Although I agree with you that it is a useful ability, I don't like the idea of being able to manipulate enemy forces, even though it is a fairly harmless thing to join the stacks together.

ariete MHII, MH GOLD

Could you really stack them?

Did you try?

JTL

Its a Feature since 1.27 or erlier. So there is and was never a problem with it. And yes you can disrupt the AI`s plans with it.

There are a couple of small things that I, for some reason, have forgot to mention although I find it annoying every time I play Japan (Korea) or France (Cameroon): Why does Rome, which historically was not a port city (but had a loading port; Civita Vecchia), have a port when the cities of Douala/Duala and Seoul don't have port capabilities? I believe that Seoul is especially comparable to Rome as it too does not have a natural port, but the city has always operated a port at Incheon. Since Incheon (one of the most important ports on the Korean Pen.) is not present, it's natural to assume that the capability should be reflected through Seoul. I can, and of course have, edited this myself, but I wish you could include it in an official update.

Keep up the good work guys, and looking forward to TGW!

One simple plain question.

ML pushed online an update that broke more than a single installation. It's beta so it's the game, but then after they received a number of posts and I did submit a specific error, no one came back with one of the following:

1) a fix

2) a time to fix

3) switched back to N-1 beta release

4) explained what was pushed since there was no announcement

WHY?

Knights_Cross MHII

Any idea when a fix might be coming for the new 1.28 beta update? I had no problems with the first 1.28 update, but cannot launch a new single player game or load any old games once I downloaded the second 1.28 pre-release. If I turn off getting pre-release updates, I can play 1.27 with no problem.

Same as you Knights but my last game is unplayable at 1.27 :-(

I have the same problem as ariete. A little bit of information would be nice.

We are looking at the problem, but our work week was just cut short by a massive blizzard here in New England.

ariete MHII, MH GOLD

Thanks Chris at least we understand.

Can't you switch back to N-1? We unflag beta, then install 1.27, than flag beta again and go beck to beta N-1...

ariete MHII, MH GOLD

Chris, I do understand problems and other tasks like great war but a fix is urgently needed.

Switching back to n-1 should be the easy way.

Whatever, but fix it.

Thanks

When will this update be available for multiplayer?

Chris   Site Admin MHII

@ariete: Update Direct X. See if that solves the problem.

ariete MHII, MH GOLD

Chris, I do not know why it was broken but reinstalling/updating DirectX fixed the issue.

What I do not understand is why it worked at previous beta and at 1.27. Could you explain? Did you change DirectX calls? I have WinXP Sp3.

Thanks

Chris   Site Admin MHII

It wasn't broken, the latest pre-release uses the most recent version of directX. We are streamlining this in future builds.

Thanks for explaining. I tought I was up to date but clearly I wasn't.

When you'll release 1.28 my suggestion is to ask gamers to check if they are at latest DirectX level :-)

1.28 is still unplayable. Nothing can be loaded or started new on Single Player. Much like ariete, rolling back did not help.

@Vinnyboy and NickB, much to their dismay, Muzzy Lane IS located in an area of Massachusetts that has been constantly pounded in several Blizzards and snow storms recently. They have been averaging anywhere from 13" to well over 3 feet of snow in the past few weeks PER storm.

I, like others here, have been waiting patiently for this update. However, we must understand that there are other variables that must go into play when considering how quickly something is done.

  1. Have you updated to the latest directx 9? See Chris' link above.

  2. Not sure how you're rolling back but you can download the full installer for 1.27 from our support page.

  3. If none of the above fixes it, try temporarily renaming your mod directory. I've seen at least 1 case where a mod causes an error when the game gets the list of playables and prevents play.

I don't mind them being late, but when you are late you should at least make an announcement. Dave said the update was planned to be released at the end of january, when it wasn't I asked multiple times about it and so did my friend for about a week. If we hadn't asked they would've never told us. And now again they didn't bother telling us the update was delayed again because of technical difficulties or a snow storm.

Chris   Site Admin MHII

Sorry for not keeping you better informed. Game development can be messy. Sometimes you know it will be another week or two, other times it's day to day. The delay is currently caused by changes to the underlying platform, which is used for all the games we have in active development and use right now. We will get there!

Sounds good to me. Let me know when you need my address.

No seriously, we were just wondering why they didn't inform us.

Yes I understand that completely. Trust me, I have never been a patient person when it comes to waiting. However, with a small company (especially one that has went above and beyond expectations before) you have to understand that they do not have the staffing abilities or manpower that larger Corperations like Blizzard or Ubisoft have.

Again, I am not trying to bash anyone but I have gotten quite tired of everyone trying to bash Muzzy Lane for forces that are quite beyond their control. They have outperformed before and I have confidence that they will once more.

Furthermore, I believe that Muzzy Lane will be accepting ANY sort volunteer work from disgrunted forum members in order to get things on track. However, I think they may only use you as Coffee-Runners and stressballs...

Damn I need some cold water for that burn. If you want to rant on some more, please visit the forums and do not continue in this post. Before the useless reactions wipe out the original question:

I actually did that last night. At first it said my installation (or update) of my directX actually failed. After I tried it once more, it was fixed. I probably should have paid attention to certain posts by Chris and you about the issue.

Ah well, c'est la vie. Thanks for the help!

1.28 is still in pre-release so it won't be ready for multiplayer yet. You will have to wait for the official release of the 1.28 patch before it's ready for multiplayer.
