July 28th 2014? Seems appropriate, lol

I hope this release goes better than MH2's release. So far TGW is looking much better. Can't wait to try out the editor.

Given that the map is the same (yes the world didn't change shape) I'd like to understand what are the differences from MHII.

I'm curious to understand how you shifted a movement war (MHII) to a semistatic trenches war (TGW).

Well, I suppose that will quell any "When is release date!!!1!1!!" talk in the forum. And an aptly placed release date it is, too!

Maybe I'll just play a turn every week, you know, to keep it historical and all, and see what happens. I'll report back in 4 years. :-)

There have been many changes to units and fortifications - more info to come as we move closer to release.

You'll find the economic problems of Russia much more challenging in TGW - you'll need to keep that cash coming from the French!

Yes. We've added the concept of "Diplomatic Influence" which will rise as you provide aid and resources to other nations. Although in this case it would probably be more an issue of France keeping Russia on it's side.

Cane we add/remove provinces from our colonies, create colonies and rename them whenever we want?

Will provinces also be shaped in a way that modern day borders can be created?

Gotta say the changes in the UI look gorgeous, don't know if I'll play TGW (Really enjoy the advanced tech of WW2) but if the diplomacy is greatly improved and the AI is better then I will almost have to.

Did the Top Bar changed ? Where is the Icon for Gas Weapons ?

I think the Icons go like ( from left to right ) 1.Stability 2.Moral 3.Cant even gues :P 4.MPUs 5.Weapons 6.Fuel 7.IPUs 8.Nation Flag 9.Coal 10.Metal 11.Unrefinde Oil 12.See 3. :P and 13.Is Money.

The Icons on the right side are the same as in MH2 only at the right bottom there is a second Infrastructure Icon. For what purpose .... no idea maybe Colonial Infrastructure ?

The Left bottom Icons are the Nation Flagg then 3 Orange Icons i cant recognice and back / next region. Then the Regions Name and its Improvements like 1. Airfield 2. Empty ( Maybe deff Instalations ) 3. Harbour ( i hope ). Further down are Production Order and Terrain Type. Then Stability ( 0 ? ), Moral, Health and the rest 2 no plan. ^^

You will have flexibility to organize the regions under your control the way you see fit and then deal with the consequences.

We are making changes to the map and hopefully they will cover modern cases.

Good guesses. The UI is still in progress but the basic graphical look is settling. Expect more changes as we move towards release.

We won't have any kind of migration or resettlement gameplay when Great War comes out. Not sure where this will fall on future plans.

Why bother with such a minor issiu of being able to move settlers arround. They would bring no stability bonuses into the regions unless you send a lot of them but then you would lose them in your Factories or Farms so you would lose Productions. It would surely be something for after the war but not in the middle of it. And in a Timeframe of max 10 Years its not much of any use.

I can see us delving into that in a future title, but as you say over a 10 year span it generally is not a major issue.

Read your game release for the Great War - Cannot wait ! Especially considering that I do not play computer games now. Out grown them. But the game release made the Great War sound fantastic ! Concept of the game making it more like a grown up version of risk compared to Civilization is the best. To me that game franchise has out lived its game cycle but Making History hopefully has a long ways yet.

Thanks for the encouragement. We're excited for The Great War and more time periods after that. I'm especially looking forward to playing the multiethnic empires like the Ottomans and the Austro-Hungarians - should be a challenge!

Also, unrelated to this screenshot, but the Sandžak region in Serbia (I noticed it's a new region! :D) should be Bosniak ethnicity, or at least Bosnia should have Sandžak as a historical territory.

I noticed that a user up above was talking about worries that they'd get bored with WWI tech as compared to WW2 tech. I get the impression that tech will go beyond 1918 into tanks, submersibles, etc. How modern does the tech get?

Just personally, I would love to be able to research all the way into modern techs. If I could put drones in the air of a region, cyber attack a country and erase fog of war with satellites, I would just freak out in a good way.

dave   Site Admin MHII, MH GOLD

We are planning the content for the initial release to cover roughly the 1910-1920 period. I suspect that will expand as we go forward, but I'm not sure we'll see drones and satellites in TGW any time soon!

Yeah, it's safe to say I'm pretty pumped. By the way, will there be an option to port a saved game file from TGW and play it out in MHII? I know Paradox has a system like that, but I didn't know how complex that would be to add into a game that is already pretty close to being done.

dave   Site Admin MHII, MH GOLD

We haven't looked at connecting any of the games at this point - still deep in finishing TGW. But I'd guess it's more likely that we would connect TGW to a new title in the WWII era than to MHII.

Gen.Pershing MHII, MH GOLD

Well, that makes sense considering the changes being made in TGW that wouldn't fully port over to a previous game. Oh well, hopefully it can be ported to a future title down the road! I'm a patient guy lol.

We have restructured the economy and diplomacy a fair amount, and the demographics/stability system has been significantly improved. Our goal (among others) is to bring the new systems forward through the 20th century.

Alexio MHII

So for exemple in the year 1930 we are going to have ww1 tanks and planes?

dave   Site Admin MHII, MH GOLD

The Great War is primarily being developed to cover roughly the 1910-1920 period in the first release. We may expand that post release but are still working out the details.

  • Armchair General previews TGW
    July 17, 2014

"Although the graphic and mechanics are similar to Muzzy Lane’s World War II games, play in the new game is different. The world—even Europe—was not as developed in 1912 as it was in 1933. Gaining wealth and increasing military might is a function of building factories in cities. These factories must have well-developed rail systems, and only Britain and most of Germany are well-heeled in this respect. Powers such as Austria-Hungary and even France didn’t have enough double-tracked lines to expand their manufacturing base or easily move troops. Colonies in Asia and Africa not only have poor transportation systems but very backward agriculture. "
