What do you have updates set for in the properties channel?

Too bad I have a paper to write, otherwise I would be on this all night lol! So far, the update looks fine. I am just waiting until 1913-1914 when the majority of the revolts begin to turn from "riot" into full-blown revolution.

Any word on when the influencing options will be turned on for the game? There are several things also with two "x" marks like so "XX", I'm assuming that these have not been added into the game yet? The battle screen has them where it says what the casualties are per side and they also appear in the "shipping" icon at the top of the screen as well.

We'e pretty excited about the Shipping feature - players will need to build shipping capacity in Shipyards to trade over water and can't trade more in a turn than they have shipping capacity for. When trade is interdicted the shipping capacity will be sunk so you can strangle trade by sinking all of their capacity.

The Shipping Feature. That sounds like something that will primarily affect England and maybe France. Germany, Russia, and USA will be somewhat unaffected by this. Is that correct? Not a problem, I am just curious.

Britain was able to inflict significant damage onto the German economy through its blockade in the North sea. The lack of food greatly depressed the German people's will to fight, which brought Germany to the negotiating table. So it will certainly affect them.

Who decides if a trade involves shipping? In the old MHII I found strange sinking for trade routes I belived were on land...

How do I protect sea lines? In MHII I put ship on sinking points without success

Definitely will impact anyone trading over water. Since the US has lots of resources most nations trading with them will be impacted. We are also looking at having an option for which nation provides the shipping capacity for a trade.

Is this still the case? The game version should end in .38 now.

MHII just uses a "shortest path" algorithm. We will most likely modify that given the extra requirement for shipping capacity over the seas.

That will be how you do it. We'll be adding more feedback on the impact of that.

A few questions 1. Is there any way to increase resource production or do we just have to expand our empire? I feel like there should be some way to increase it with tech. This could provide more incentive to take over small countries to make extraction more efficient. 2. Do canneries and slaughterhouses work? I can't tell 3. What determines what factories a city can have?

I love the game, although I do have to say the UI needs a little work, I don't have most of the info I need. The world is also way too unstable, and there doesn't seem to be any natural progression towards anything but democracy. I've seen a hundred revolutions but no socialism.

Keep in mind, this is just a beta. What releases this summer will be very different from what we're playing now. The in-game encyclopedia hasn't been implemented yet and I feel like that'll clear up a Lot of questions.

There's a resource tab under your industry button. You can expand your current resources or prospect to increase the maximum number of resources in that region. It's not perfect yet, but definitely functional.

I am curious about your second and third question though.

Thanks for the feedback. A few answers:

  • You can grow resource production up to the limit of the producer. The limit can be increased by prospecting in the region for that resource.
  • Canneries and Slaughterhouses aren't hooked up yet.
  • Most cities can have any factory type (assuming you have the research completed). Only port cities can have Shipyards.

As of this update, the oil stockpile problem still persists as well as a new bug: I am unable to do anything with my resource producers. I try to click on them to either prospect or expand production, but nothing happens when I click the "No Orders" button. Well, I guess I'll have to go back to conquering Romania in the first turn of the game!

Great game, though. I've played through MHII dozens of times testing out different courses of history and this game looks like it has just as much potential.

i noticed that, when a peace has been made, fighting units still continue fighting. Also, you cannot offer or ask for regions when applying for a peace.

  • Making History: The Great War Developer Diary 4: The Steam “Early Access” Experience
    January 20, 2015

With the game about to officially release on Jan 29th, lead engineer Dave McCool, MH designer Ralph Gerth and I (Chris Parsons, product manager), were reflecting recently on our experience having a game available to the public on Steam’s Early Access. We’ve been hearing a lot about Early Access lately, including some criticism from players who bought in and then were unhappy when the title they purchased remained in Early Access too long, or, in some cases, never emerged. These are perfectly valid concerns. Like Kickstarter projects, buying into a creative process in the early stages of development isn’t a sure thing. So what’s the view from the developer side?

The game debuted on Steam Early access on April 4th of this year to coincide with the 100 year anniversary of the war. It is due for a September 9th release. The game’s primary focus is Grand Strategy where players are tasked with taking on the Great Powers (or smaller nations such as Cuba) and steering them through the conflict using military, economic, diplomatic, and even domestic tactics.
