Markdown language is a little different than PHP, but pretty easy once you know how.

CREATING A LIVE URL LINK

You use the brackets [ ] and the parentheses ( ). In the brackets, put what you'd like people to see, for example the actual URL link, or "It's here" or something. in the parentheses, put the actual URL. Be sure there are no spaces in the middle between the right bracket and left parentheses: ]( .

So, for example:

    [New GHQ site](http://www.making-history.com)

Appears as: New GHQ site

Or I can display the URL by substituting it for "New GHQ site":

Appears as: http://www.making-history.com

The easiest thing to do is type the URL twice, and put the first in brackets, the second in parantheses, and you will see it appear instantly in your message.
