I think another mistake was that Germany did not simply have enough fuel to run there Vehicles due to the loss in North Africa during the war. which impacted the German army alot.

I was told this so I don't know if it accurate.

Well the invasion in North Africa was more directed to the Middle East were the German could have found oil ...

Actually, the BIG objective there was to take control of the Suez Canal and deny that shortcut to the Allies.

Exactly! Germany should either bet a bit more on Rommel with more troops and tanks or not go there at all.

Meh. It was either send something to stabilize the Italians, or watch its military collapse and Italy drop out of the alliance a couple years earlier than it did.

Perhaps not the worst choice? If Mussolini could remain in power, yet make peace, it probably would have worked out better. Or even if the Germans occupied Italy, and installed Mussolini or some other guy as leader, it would have been better. Although, I can see the Germans predicament. When you're at war with basically the entire world, you take all the friends you can get.

What would have made the situation more tenable would have been to take out Malta. The plans had already been developed, but after the way the paratroopers got hammered on Crete, there was reluctance to risk an encore. The fact that Malta remained operational played havoc on the Axis supply lines to North Africa.
