Mute button is your friend.

I didnt need to use it until I played Halo 3 on XBL with a 9-year-old arguing with his mother. lol

I don't believe in "protecting" people from violent scenes in video games any more than from violent scenes in movies. The game is rated - parents can and should make decisions about what their children should see then. The average gamer is an adult, not a child. The content should not be censored as if children were the only, or even majority, of the audience.

I also think the concept of "I wish we were shooting bad guys instead, that'd be okay" is a far more chilling and dangerous train of thought that games encourage than anything that could come from this level. I have no specific thoughts on to the artistic merits of the level in question, however, as I don't play CoD.

The level can actually be played through without shooting a single civilian, it's when the police/military police arrive is when you do have to shoot someone. I have to agree with Macky in saying it was one of the most memorable moments in the game. Chills went up my spine when he said that. The ending to the game was one of the most epic moments (IMO) in gaming history.

Off Topic: Macky, does your life just revolve around this forum or something?

A combination of that and the fact that the mods haven't yet discovered the magic of the IP ban.

We have IP ban, this kid is creating new usernames with new IP's. It's clear it is him, though, so any thread he starts, or any posts he makes, will be deleted. The new IP will be banned. We are contacting his ISP to have his account--or more accurately, his parents' account--suspended.

In the meantime, thanks to everyone who notes when he posts with a new identity. Again, it's easy to spot, but our staff is busy making the new game, and has less time to spend dealing with pesky trolls.

Thank you!

BTW, If you choose to go trough the level, you are not required to shoot at anybody! You can just follow along, and wait for the cut scene...at this point the player doesnt have a choice but do defent himself and fire at Cops; no more civilians however!

I noted that as well during my play-through of the game.

As you say, it's only a game. However, there is a dramatic range of abstraction to realism in the games you mention. In MH1, you can nuke cities, and in your battles, you lose divisions of soldiers. But it's quite abstract. It's very different to be playing a game and walk up to the back of someone and blow their head off and have very real gore spray on the wall.

Chris--

I kind of enjoyed the mission, I can't lie. I found some use out of it, I terrified my mother right before we were about to get on a plane by showing it to her, heheheh. Never beat it bast the go Rambo on civvies part though.

Honestly the AC130 stuff is a little bit more creepy. It's like that other guy said, you're shooting at human beings like they're just ants and nothing more. I feel bad when I shoot a helicopter and I see 5 people scream and fall to their death. At the same time though, it kinda does give you a feeling of being on a whole other level of power.
