Dogs of the Pacific - A Game by TehBoss :D

I'm making my own computer game on Flash Creative Suite 3 called Dogs of the Pacific.

It's based on the many battles throughout the Pacific Front of WWII. You launch your aircraft from an airfield, or a carrier. Epic dogfights take place, along with bird's-eye-view awesome naval batles.

You will take place in some of the bloodiest battles in WWII. The Battle of Tarawa, Gudalcanal, The Attack on Pearl harbor.

In this game what I really aimed for was good graphics. I tried to make a game alot like this in the past, I called it "Aftershock", it was really terrible. So now, I revisited some of my old Actionscript codes, made them better, corrected them, drew a Mitsubishi Zero, slapped it on. Once it looked right, i kept it that way.

The game in it's current state isn't necesarily perfect, but it is something. I've so far drawn these planes:

Bell P-39 Airacobra, F4u Corsair, F6F Hellcat, Gloster Gladiator (I need at least one biplane here), Hawker Hurricane (Mk.I if you wanna know), J-2m Raiden, Lockheed P-38 Lightning, Mitsubishi A6M Zero, and the Nakajima Kikka.

I'm definately planning on adding as many bombers and definately more aircraft in the game as I possible can.

Give me some ideas for missions please, im kinda rusty on my Pacific Front history. I mean I've thought of a couple, not including those mentioned above ;), but it's still not enough.

Also, should I add both an American Campaign and Japanese Campaign? or just the American Campaign.

A Japanese campaign would be cool because you get to take place in the conquering of all those archipelagoes, and the American Campaign would be even cooler because of all those titanic naval battles, and the furious re-taking of those islands.

Two campaigns would be great! How about some stuff in the Solomons?

Yes! Sadly, the game is unplayable. I need to finish art for alot of things. Including Destroyers, Aircraft Carriers, Battleships, Cruisers, etc.

I don't think i'm even 2/3 of the way done with drawing the planes!

I finished drawing the first battleship, it's not that good, but it's going to have to pass for the basic draft.

Im just finished drawing the Grumman F4F Wildcat, and I'm still drawing the Aichi D3-A1 Type 99.

Are you going to put the Hellcat in too?

btw there is already a proffesional game like this. it's called battlestations pacific. so if you need ideas look it up.

plus SUBMARINES! you NEED submarines. plus add the B-29 (nothing says OMFG like a giant-ass bomber dropping about as many bombs as 3 medium bomber's)

This is basicly an air-combat game, so you wont be able to commandeer submarines, but they will definately be in the game.

the B-24 Liberator, B-17 Flying Fortress, and the B-29 Superfortress will all be pilotable :)

what about altitude. (you can show this by making the airplane bigger and only having around 5 hight levels

(B-29 would be hieght level 5 B-17 and other heavy bombers level 4 medium bombers and most fighters level 3

of course certain other planes would be able to go to higher altitudes but you get the point.

also if you're changing altitude you should be able to be shot from both hieght levels.

just a thought

Here's an idea. You can make both a Japanese and American Campagin as mentioned before. The Japanese Campagin could be the "Easy" Campagin, while the American Campaign is the "Hard" one. Also, have an Instant-Action type thing where you can set up certain conditions for a battle. Maybe a sequel set in Europe? (Nah.) Sound like a good game, though. I'll at least try it when (Or if) it comes out.

Yes, it'll come out, just it will take quite some time.

Instant Action would be cool, but I think I'll just stick with the American/Japanese Campaign.

How do you do that stuff. I look at all that programming, and my mind just goes mushy.

I dunno lol, i guess i just got used to it. After all, I've been working on Adobe Flash since I was 9 years old, of course i sucked utterly at the time, but eventually i decided to look at tutorials. After memorizing them, i was able to mix certain codes to create a large array of different actions. I've been able to mix the simpilest of actionscript programming to make elaborate scripts. The code to make the plane fly uses ALOT of VERY basic commands. But when combined, I was able to make things such as gotoAndStop(); and onClipEvent(); combined to make a script where the plane is able to shoot it's weapons, and more codes that make the plane fly towards the mouse. I dont always use basic commands, usually it results in a big chunky game (if you know what I mean). I have to use some more advanced commands to get to my goal.
