Land attack capability for Battleships and Cruisers

In reality, battleships and cruisers have a shore bombardment capability, they should be able to attack cities/industrial centers as well as resource producers and military units. Was there no shore bombardment at Normandy and Iwo Jima?

Refer to this link on how important land attack was in the battle of Shanghai: http://ww2db.com/battle_spec.php?battle_id=85. Again a morale issue on how your citizens and troops will respong.

Yes, I agree that battleships & cruisers should be able to bombard land (and industrial, resource, and air units) units on adjacent land regions. But what about a new unit, for example, a super heavy artillery unit that could bombard naval units in an adjacent sea region? Obviously it could attack land base units as well.

Re: shore bombardment. Even with the Iowas you're only going to be able to shell cities and resources right on the coast. Typically the regions are much, much bigger than just the 25 miles (around the maximum range of the Iowa's guns) in on the coast line. So, you could shell port cities, but nothing else. Any units are just generally in the region, not necessarily near the coast.

Re: super heavy land-based guns (such as those that were part of the Atlantic Wall. I think this would be a neat idea to incorporate into the defenses of a region. Again, the sea regions are pretty huge so I'm not sure about the logistics of it.

In MHII surface ships will have the ability to support an amphibious landing, but not the ability to target random enemy units in coastal regions.

That is the solution I hoped for :)

Awesome, Dave!

Also, if you take a look at picture #20 in the link to gamestop that Boss posted in the MH2 section it shows 'Coastal Defense' and has a gun in a casement! Rad!

Sounds good to me, looking forward to see it. Can't wait to get a couple of "Schwerer Gustav's" online. Big buggers, here's a link if any are interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/80_cm_Gustav

Here's another page on the Axis History forum on Artillery and Missiles/Rockets, pretty interesting stuff.

In MHI, you can bomb enemy ships inside port cities. I've been wondering if in MHII you can "move" your ships inside enemy ports and attack those ships. With 00crusader's idea to bombard inland targets, although not usually being practical, my suggestion is that naval vessels should be able to shell only port cites as if the were being bombed.

This is a no-brainer! I was shocked when I first started playing and rolled a couple battleships off a countries coast and then realized I could not prep the area with bombardment before sending in my troops.

yeah it's pretty annoying that there is no shore bombardment, I wonder what Vandegrift would have to say about no shore bombardment at guadal, iwo, tarawa, etc.. maybe they can patch this for gold...
