Possible Portugal AAR
said on Jan 03, 2010 at 04:02 AM

I was reading through the Hungary AAR (By Teh Boss), and i noticed someone mentioned a lack of Portugal AARs. Feeling tempted, I have now decided to do it. I'll add a new update every 50 or so turns in. Maybe more if I'm low on material. I'll be doing this on Gold in Rise of The Reich. No Partisans. I'm not telling what difficulty. This might not happen, as I've never done one of these before. Wish me luck...

EDIT: I'm just going to update whenever I feel I've made signifigant enough progress.

Just out of curiosity, why aren't you telling what difficulty?

And good luck with the AAR, even on Easiest, you won't have much to work with at the start.

I'm planning on mass industrial expansion until the Spanish Civil War. Pretty much anything goes from there.

If you must know, I'm doing it on Easiest. I could do it on a higher difficulty, but I don't want to.

CHAPTER I: The Push Into Spain

I'm going to get in a quick update before I get to bed. It's currently turn 205. Late 1936. Portugal, having spent that last three or so years on industrial expansion, is an industrial powerhouse, though it still cannot rival the larger nations. The Spanish Civil War has broken out. Portugal has declared war on the Republicans, though do not ally with the Nationalists, as they want Republican Spain for themselves. I have just taken over Castile and one other region. Industrial Expansion has paid off, as I was able to quickly pump out Basic Infantry for the fighting. During its Industrial Expansion, Portugal passes Italy in Power Points. Italy has not caught up since. Off to a roaring start (After 200 turns of preperation), Portugal is poised to take out the Republicans, and perhaps the Nationalists as well...

CHAPTER II: Portugal Rising

I'm now on turn 314. It's early 1939. The Portugese war with Republican Spain has been mostly successful. Any land in Spain that the Nationalists didn't take were taken by Portugal. Madrid has fallen. And so had the Republicans. Though the Civil War still raged, Portugal made peace with the Republicans, demanding they cede territory and install a freindly government. Portugal is now a force to be feared. Industrial expansion takes hold in occupied Spain. When Japan, joined by Germany, declares war on China, Portugal rushes to Japanese Aid. Producing many units of Basic Infantry, and later Improved Infantry after some research, at Macaco Peninsula, Portugal manages to gobble up most of China, Japan barley getting anything. Germany annexes Austria, and after a time when the German Alliance is formed, Italy joins. The German Alliance declares war on Yugoslavia, with half of Croatia being freed (Italy has the other half). Eventually, they Alliance declares war on Czechslovakia as well. At this time, the USSR declares war on the German Alliance. Also at this time, Portugal has become one of the most powerful nations on Earth, and could probably rival some of the greater ones. The German Alliance is the most powerful in the world. Here are two maps. One of the European front, one of the Asian front.

I'm personally proud of what I've done so far. I've bee thinking about going after Communist China, but will wait on that. Attacking Nationalist Spain is totally out of the question right now, as I may upset my allies. Perhaps enough so to break our Alliance. One thing's for sure, I'm doing a lot better then another run I did. I didn't go through the whole thing, but I knew I was screwed. All I'm going to say is that a declaration of war on Iraq isn't always the best idea if you aren't very powerful.

EDIT: As you can see, maps now showing right there.

CHAPTER III: Indian Assault

It is currently tunr 355, late 1939, Much has happened in the last few months. Hungary has joined the German Alliance. Unfourtenatley, The British Alliance has been drawn into the conflict. However, for unnown reasons, South Africa left the British Alliance before the war was on, so they are neutral at this point. Portugal quikly captured much of Southern British Africa, while Italy snatched up the Northern part. Romania was invaded, and Bulgaria joined the alliance. Several nations got territoriy in Romana, including Hungary, Germany, Craotia, and even Portugal. This has given the Western members of the Alliance a window into the Soviet Motherland. Meanwhile, Portugal has crushed the Chinese, and looks to British India. Within months, British India is a part of the Portugese Empire. Portugal is preparing to mount an attack on the USSR from Sinkiang. As Soviet troops seem to be heading West, presumably to fight off the Germans, this will become an easier task. Portugal has become even more deadly with research of Advanced Infantry. With this new, more powerful type of industry, Portugal had an easier time in British India, and will soon put them to even greater use in the upcoming Soviet Campaign, Through it's conquest and industrial expansion, Portugal has become the second most powerful nation in the world in points, rivaled only by the United States. However, the war has only just begun, and other countries may be drawn in at any time. Who will ultimatley win in this war? The German, or rather Portugese Alliance, or the British Alliance? Or will the Soviet Union somehow become the more dominant power? (The Soviets havn't allied with the British) I now show you four maps. These are of Europe, Africa, Asia, and India.

I'm really not sure whether or not to grant India independence. I'd really like to keep all those points I'm pretty sure I got from it. What do you guys think I should do?

You could probably put the cities to use for now. Try industrializing them. Plus, being able to produce troops there will be a big advantage in the region.

It's also worth mentioning that if you take Persia, you'll open up a doorway directly into western Russia.

How am I supposed to produce troops in India? Ulike MH1, you apparently can't hijack captured industry to make troops until the territory has been ceded to you.

Aw. It may then be best to re-establish it as an ally, that way they can hold the area. But hey, it's up to you, examine all the pros and cons of holding onto India, thats a good piece of land you've got there!

I had to update right now. This just blew my mind.

CHAPTER IV: Taking On The Bear

It is turn 376. Portugal had decided to grant Independence to India. Though Portugal lost it's status as the second most powerful nation in points, it gained a powerful ally that could immediatley put Indian industry to good use. As the German Campagin on the Soviets went on in the Western Soviet Union (Along with a moderate Portugese Campaign), the Eastern Portugese Campagin and a minor Japanese one were going on as well. Consisting mostly of troops left from the Conquest of British India, three seperate divisions almost simultaniously attacked the three Soviet territories bordering Portugese China. A good amount of land was taken. Meanwhile, the troops in the Western USSR, amazingly, did quite well. Originally, Potugal had simply wanted to assist the Germans. However, they saw access to many good territories, and they jumped at the opportunity to add Soviet territory to their Empire. As fighting was concentrated more Southward, Portugal managed to take Leningrad and Moscow, as well as some Southern Soviet territories (Fighting North of them). At one point, Iraq joined the alliance. Soon, Portugal had decided to take care of Communits China and declare war. As soon as they did so (And you're probably not going to believe me), the United States asked to join the Portugese Alliance. Germany, Italy, Japan, and Portugal all allowing it, America joined the war against the UK and it's allies, as well as the Soviet Union and Communist China. Portugal and it's allies had become unstoppable. The most powerful nation on Earth was on their side. Victory seems certain. MAPS! (I tried to get photographic proof of that United States thing, but Paint wouldn't let me. You'll just have to take my word for it.)

I've been very successful. To be honest, more successful than I ever thought I would be. I'm the third most powerful nation in the world (In points), am part of the most powerful alliance in the world with the three most powerful nations in the world in it, and am poised to take over the enitre world with my allies. Really, the US is in my alliance! And all over Communist China! Like I said, I can't get you photographic proof right now, so you'll just have to take my word for it.

CHAPTER V: The Fall Of Communism

It is turn 417, early 1941. The USSR had swiftly fallen, as did Communist China. Portugal had much more territory under its fold. The United States was on a rampage through Canada, eventually conquring it. Portugal decided to do some island hopping, both in Ocenaia and other areas. This harrasment, along with the conquest of South Yemen and Malasya, have helped in making the UK lose power. However, most likely due to declarations of war on Siam, Lithania, and Danzig, the United States has left it's alliane with Portugal and the others. However, the US did not declare war on them, and there is still a very good chance that Portugal and it's allies can still win this war. Iraq has fallen to Saudi Arabia, though Portugal is poised to launch an invasion on this nation. With some advancement in the Tactical Field, Portugal has now decided to research Light Bombers as part of a plan to take care of the United Kingdom once and for all...

I don't know whether or not I want to post any maps for this one.
