Aircraft carriers always have a CAP in the air at all times, therefore even when they are being attacked by enemy bombers they have this airdefense aloft. You shouldn't have to have task the carrier to do this, this should be an automatic function. Any CAG "Commander Air Group" that didn't do this would find himself on the beach. Any carrier captain that did not allow it would be stripped of their duties and up for courtsmartial...need I say more???

I agree with this. I have never heard of an aircraft carrier not having a bird in the sky prior to the advent of radar, and even then they normally have something off the flight deck.
Maybe you could toggle the patrol on or off and it would remain so. It is pretty annoying when you have a patrol out and if something wanders into their area or a battle takes place then suddenly your planes are grounded and have to be redeployed...pretty lame.
It bugs me badly since I normally set up a nice air perimeter around my country I am playing just to keep aircraft from entering my airspace and bombing my cities. It's a drag to keep finding your squadrons randomly grounded due to some egghead submarine battle off the coast or Oregon.

I think the designers or whoever needs a little more education about carrier operations.
