I've had the game for a while but only poked around a little. I had a blast. I'm not a history buff or war buff either but I enjoy the economy quite a bit. I played as USA and came in 4th place but I could have easily gotten 2nd. I didn't start doing research or builing military until about turn 350. I built infrastructure and upgraded cities and exported like nuts. I never went to war.
I finished with 128 Billion in the bank, resources out my ears, and I traded to any country that was attacked. Germany, Italy and China were eliminated by UK and France. Japan had about 500 PP. Russia took part of Finland then they just kinda ran out of resources.
Anyhoo good times. Love the game. I'm gonna keep turning this game and hopefully drops some nukes.

Yeah, That is the spirit!
I think I would be bored with only doing the economic side. But, why did you export that much, because I have a feeling that resources have more value then monety (for winning the game), but I might be wrong.

Well my initial control was to run at surplus cash overall at all times. And as I made improvements my IPU's increased quickly and I always had positive resource production rates. I simply unloaded surplus. Of course I imagine I will have to utilize resources to build military to win within the 480 turns. That will be my next game.
It did raise the question, though, if resources have variable value. Do you know?

I know that in the end, you have a score, based on you IPU, Manpower (consist, I believe, of you military: Navy, Army, Airforce, alltogether), Resources (!), and Financial. If you are making money, you are doing great for the Financial subscore, but if you export a lot of resources and just have a very small surplus every turn, you will have a score of 0 something just higher for the subscore Resources.
