What the hell is a "pommie" ?
Australian/New Zealand/South African slang for someone from the UK. Supposedly comes from the no longer used Australian slang for immigrant which is pomegranate

What the hell is a "pommie" ?
The term pommy, often shortened to pom, is commonly used by speakers of English from Australia, New Zealand, and sometimes South Africa as well as speakers of Afrikaans. Although it was originally a derogatory term, it was ruled no longer offensive in 2006 by the Australian Advertising Standards Board and in 2010 by the New Zealand Broadcasting Standards Authority. [1] Despite these changing views, some Britons consider the expression offensive or racist: for example, the community group British People Against Racial Discrimination was among those who complained to the Advertising Standards Board about five advertisements poking fun at "Poms," prompting the 2006 decision. [2]
The origin of this term is not confirmed and there are several persistent false etymologies. The Oxford English Dictionary (OED) strongly supports the theory that pommy originated as a contraction of "pomegranate".[3] The OED also suggests that the reason for this is that pomegranate is extinct Australian rhyming slang for immigrant; it cites an article from 14 November 1912, in a once-prominent Australian weekly magazine The Bulletin: "The other day a Pummy Grant (assisted immigrant) was handed a bridle and told to catch a horse." A popular alternative explanation for the theory that pommy is a contraction of "pomegranate", relates to the purported frequency of sunburn among British people in Australia, turning their fair skin the colour of pomegranates.[4] However, there is no hard evidence for the theory regarding sunburn.

During WW1 Hoover (yes the president during the Depression) lead a relief effort to feed the starving Belgium’s. After the war in the chaos of revolution Hoover’s relief effort expanded and feed the masses of Europe. Communist countries (mainly Russia) were excluded from this deal and Hoover gave food to democratic governments or simply anti-communists ones. That's right, a containment policy before the Cold War simply involving food.

It's hard to say something "changed" the world because that's relying on the thought that the world was destined to go one single path, a ludicrous statement in my humble opinion. That being said I think this was one of biggest things to happen in the world:
America declaring independence from England
Things that changed the WORLD. I mean, what did this mean for Luxembourg? Not much really.
You do realize America has the only nation to break away from their mother country, survive a civil war, and still come out with the same government right? America has changed plenty of things, what if America hadn't joined in WWII? I doubt you could make the Luxembourg comment contemplating that enough. Henry Ford revolutionized the automobile industry, he was American, just one American I chose to name as an example.
America is a beacon of freedom, at its founding it was the only free country from a rule of monarchy. America was the nation in which the atomic bomb was created, as said earlier the atomic weapons changed the world.
Plus, the American revolution is what inspired the French to have their revolution (although that one didn't end well), so if you wanted an international cause and effect, there you go.
Please leave your nationalist jingoism at the door.
America would be the land of spear chuckers if Spain, Portugal, France and the UK hadn't gone there. Your Britians son, and a fine son you make, unlike India who works in a call centre and Australia who won't get a bloody job.
Also, the creation of a device to massacre sacred life and humanity, the Atomic Bomb, is not an invention to be proud of, and doesn't really promote your image of 'the land of Freedom'. Everything you use, do and see (and speak) is directly created or influenced by three small feuding countries (England, Wales and Scotland) on an island in North Europe who after years of fighting each other, we learned to get along.
Greece created Civilisation. Italy civilised Europe. The British Empire civilised the World. America and Russia created weapons to destroy the World.

True. However:
EU > US
And don't forget that we are your only true proven allie in the world (and that you have never won a war without us, and never won a war on your own without help from someone whether it's aide or Napoleon) when Russia and China decide to invade.

You are mistaken. UK is a member of the EU, almost all countries in Europe is member. It is just a couple of countries in the east who isnt!

The UK joined the EU in 1973. It would have been at the start but the great Charles De Gaulle repaid the UK for it's involvement in WW2 and helping him by denying the UK entry when the EU was first created

Yes because the U.K. was TOTALLY doing fine in WWI and WWII. If I'm not mistaken, it all turned from "the Allies getting whipped" to "Oh crap here come the Americans..." in BOTH occasions. You might be our only PROVEN ally but I'm quite sure we have saved your lot much more than you have saved ours.
Also, please tell me where the glorious aid was when we fought (and won) the Spanish/American War, The Mexican/American War, and the Civil War? If I remember right, that's when England was getting hit with a storm of Zulu and other Native soldiers in Africa and India.
