Actually, Democracy as we know it is more like Republicanism in the sense of a form of Government. In the sense of the political party, however, Republicanism is Right Wing. Neo Facist? I wouldn't say so, but not impossible.

Why are we talking about republicans? I was talking about a Republic, the government where people vote for their representatives to have them go to the bigger government and make the choices for the nation (yes, I realize I probably worded that terribly)

A. We know it's a joke, Vietnam is a communist country.

B. A democracy is different from a republic, democracy is completely run by the people, with no governmental restrictions, if the majority say it's good to take this person's house, then they can take it by force, at its core it could be considered an anarchy if given enough time.

I have a question regarding Communism: Why do Communist countries always use "republic." Is Communism a type of Republic? Ack! I'm getting myself confused!

(Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Socialist Republic of Vietnam, People's Republic of China, Lao People's Democratic Republic.)

Well, in some Communsit countries (Perhaps all), the people actually elect their leaders. But since there's only one party, they have to vote for whoever the party chooses.

a republic is just a state without a monarchy. most of the world's countries which aren't monarchies actually describe themselves as republics ("Federal Republic of Germany", "French Republic", "Republic of Korea", "Republic of India", "Federal Republic of Brazil", "Arab Republic of Egypt", etc.). the USA is a "federal republic", for example, though the term isn't used in its official name.

the term "People's Republic", on the other hand, is definitely a communist term. the idea is/was that since "the People" had overthrown their imperialist/capitalist/etc. overlords, they were now rulers of their country, making it a "People's Republic".

More like the Communist Party's Republic.
