In your opinion, who were some of the major unsung heroes of both the World Wars?

The Chindits... They fought a guerilla war against Japan in Burma during the war, a damn good fight. And, well, Burma was a pacific frontier that nobody really knew alot about. I think some soldiers called it the Forgotten Front, or Forgotten War or something.

I think more in particular on this point I would have to say Orde Wingate, if not for him, there would be no Long Range Patrols. The first mission set the tone for the second mission, but; sad to say Orde Wingate died in a plane crash and did not take part in this phase.

Guy Gabaldon, was a US Marine PFC who convinced many Japanese military and civillians to surrender. Here's a link to his story: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Gabaldon

The 26th Cavalry Regiment of the Phillipine Scouts, who were involved in the last horse mounted charge of the US Army. The Phillipine Scouts was a unit of the US Army, probably one of the best trained units available in the Far East except for perhaps the 4th Marines. But; even the 4th Marines were not at first commited because of their lack of tactical training. Read the story of the 26th Cavalry Regiment here.

the spagheti army that fought in italy after the normandy invasions.
as well as the canadian army as a whole. i find that american sources rarely mention canadians, except as side notes. we fought at Ortona, Dieppe, Juno (Overlord), Falaise Gap, it is ironic, that most canadian sources for anyhting come from america.

A little off topic. American movie about it, made starring, errr, Frank Sinatra? Dont ever watch it.
Anyway, back on topic... how about Joseph Joffre(WW1), Henry Petain(WW1), Lufbery(WW1), Jesse Adams(WW2)

Actually the korean war was referred to as the forgotten war this is the first time iv'e ever heard about the campaign in burma being called the forgotten war. But both could be called the forgotten war although korea was a war on its own and the burma campaign was part of wwII, i would say korea trumps burma on the claim for the title.

Technically, Korea wasnt a war. Just a "police action". Tell that to some of the young boys who didnt come home.

Actually if you want to get into it it was a war, the korean war was a cival war between north and south. The U.S. was part of and led a UN force to fight and push back the north koreans which were aided by the ussr and china of course they fought chinese soldiers also which were coming to the defense of the north koreans later on, also its believed that russia sent some of there pilots. So to end off on that point the korean war was a war it was a civil war between north a south korea which grew into a bigger war between more powerful countries but it was focused on the war between north and south if you don't call that a war i don't know what would be called a war just because the US was fighting under the banner of the UN doesn't not make it a war yes it wasn't a united states war but it was a war nonetheless. you will find that when the cuban missle crises was going on we called the blockade of cuba a quarantine because if we would have called it a blockade that would have been an act of war so we called it a quarantine so basically you could say the same for what happened here police action last time i checked policing an area didn't involve tanks and airplanes and a massive amount of soldiers its all words so like this countries don't get in trouble with other countries. To end what i'm saying if it waddles like a duck and it quacks like a duck and it looks like a duck its a duck.
