Hearts of Iron 2: Research

I revisited Hearts of Iron 2 and started with Tech Research, if you think MOH is bad, I only have a few beefs with MOH. But Hearts of Iron 2 is just ridiculous., your cavalry + mechanized + motorized infantry use the same basic weapons, i.e. "service rifle", "mortar", vehicle engine, sloped armor, etc. etc. etc., however you research each one again if you want to get the latest and best mobile infantry. I don't know why they can't just say researching new weapons , there is a new technology out that can improve your current weapons, do you want to research it (scientists and engineers can't just sit still so they're going to develop something then look for the funding to finish their projects)? If you say yes, it gets researched. You produce the new weapons, then you re-equip your infantry with the new weapons, train them and allow them to play with their new weapons If there is a new vehicle upgrade available that has been developed, the same thing.

There wasn't a whole lot of new weapons being designed from the ground up, most were upgrades of existing vehicles/systems. Once you had a design accepted for production, you went through the review process of failures experienced during combat and fixing those. Then if you wanted to use a new technology to experiment with it, you took an existing vehicle and tried it out on that. If you have to go out and design everything from the ground up for each system, you might as well just throw stones cause your people are going to have to wait forever because of the logistics issues with supplying each weapons systems. We're not even talking about retraining your factory workers and retooling your factories as well as your quality control, testing, etc. etc.

I honestly kind of like the research system in Hearts of Iron 2.

HoI2 Research > MH Research

More in-depth... More technologies... just better overall.

???? I think you mean HOI3. HOI2 doesnt have reaserch like that at all, in fact HOI2 research is only slightly more complex than MH. For me its a great game.
