I've recently been getting into the Mass Effect games and I thought it was pretty cool that in the second game they had an import feature where you could import your character and his experiences from the first game and use them in the second game. I think an import feature could be an interesting addition to future MH games, you finish at a certain point in one game and when the next game comes out you can import that save into it and pick up right where you left off. The only thing is that A) the game would have to be practically right after its predecessor and B) would have to find a way to incorporate events into the new game so that way it wouldn't just be an un-scripted war fest.
For example, let's say I finish the last turn in MHII as Germany; I have all of Europe when I hit end turn the very last time. Now let's say MHII ends like MHI, basically when WWII ends, now let's say MHIII picks up right after WWII was supposed to end, I could import my game as Germany and continue playing, with some scripted events added in to make the game more interesting.
Any thoughts, criticism, or suggestions?

That sounds pretty cool. That would be a good idea.

Importing games features tend not to be mod friendly
New nations or units tend to create errors in the new game
Its probably simpler to make a Cold War expansion with modded scenarios so you could play say from 1936-1991 or whatever (and of course scenarios starting later)

Yeah Carl, that's also another concern of mine, unless the developers could come up with a system, it would be incredibly hard to have new stuff added in, or at least I imagine it would be.
