Spanish Civil War Alliances

I'm playing as USSR and the Spanish Civil War just began. Japan has joined the Nationalist Alliance.

Is there anyway I can possible join the Republican Alliance without going directly to war with Japan?

What ended up happening in my game was that on the pretext of the Spanish Civil War, I ended up conquoring and liberating Manchuria and Korea!

And after Nationalist Spain surrendered, Japan fights on, even when I offer them peace with no conditions! So the Spanish Civil War has unleashed a war between superpowers for complete annhilation in Asia!

Couldn't I just help the Republicans by making an alliance?

Lol.

If not, how else could I help the Republicans -- just through aid?

You'd have to help the Republicans just through aid. Once an Alliance is made joining the enemy of the Alliance puts you at war with all the members.

That's bad news. IRL, The USSR and Germany committed military forces to the Spanish Civil War, but didn't go to war with each other in Eastern Europe.

Nether the Germans or Soviets committed troops both sent advisory and trainers and it is suspected that both played key roles in the air forces of both sides the only other nation that sent uniformed soldiers to preform combat duty was the Italians, people from other countries fighting in the Spanish Civil War were generally ordinary civilians who fought with which ever side they agreed with.

Germany used the Condor Legion to bomb several Spanish cities, it was like a training ground for Germany's Luftwaffe

While most of the international brigades were made up of civilians (from the US and Canada for example), there were also international military units committed by foreign powers.

Yes, the German Condor Legion, an official unit of the German military, actively engaged in combat (often against civilian targets though).

And the USSR definitely actively engaged the enemy (and actually engaged in sectarian fighting against other Republican forces), though the Soviet soldiers were 'officially' called volunteers.

In MH this kind of scenario is impossible.

Is this possible in MH2?

I once fought as N Spain and took over half of europe by 1947. Germany was still left.. barely.

It's fun helping the Republicans win, I think. It adds a bit of variety.
