Why do Americans hate "Commies"

Maybe its all those Gulag death camps and imprisonment of intellectuals that kinda sour peoples view on Communists

Americans. Massacres and internment of Native American tribes. How can you forgive those monsters?

Most Americans know little or nothing about communism that could be the reason.

Well - it's good enough for them to be anti-communist :). It's like some kind of self-defence system: most of you probably only heard of HIV :), but none of you wants to have it, right? It's exactly this same with Americans. Communism will work only in theory - never in practise. I remember very well last 10-15 years of communism in Poland - empty shelves in shops, enormous queues just to buy sugar (remember when my mother was sending me to the shop in next village at 4 in the morning, just because she was told by someone that they will deliver sugar there!), coffee-like products, chocolate-like products. You wanted a car? Great. Didn't matter you had money to buy it straight away - you had to go on the list and wait - usually few years. Tropical fruits, normal coffee? Oh yeah, they were for sale, of course - in shops behind yellow curtains - that means only communist party members could buy in there.

Powerfull security forces - militia could do with you anything want they wanted to do. School? My parents always were telling me - don't tell teachers what we are talking at home (!). You are laughing at ruling Party? Hmmm... Better don't. Thousands people disappeared with no trace. My grandfather was telling me, what Russians (NKWD) were doing with Polish people in Lvov in December 1939 after they attacked Poland together with Germany. He told me what this same Russians (NKWD) was doing after 1945 on polish soil... At least Germans had some rules...

What can anyone of you say about communism? :) Don't laugh at Americans - as I stated before - their reaction is like bodys reaction against HIV...

Yes, but we didn't kill over 9,000 of them now did we

Well, lessee what a quick Search gets us:

Massacres

Battle of Bad Axe 150

Bloody Island Massacre 60-100

"Ox" Incident --"Unreported number of Indians were killed in the Four Creeks area (Tulare Co., California) in "our little difficulty" and "the chastisement they have received""

Kaibai Creek Massacre 42

Klamath River massacres -- "retaliation for the murder of six settlers and the theft of some cattle, whites commenced a "war of extermination against the Indians" in Humboldt Co., California"

Wiyot Massacre 188

Tonkawa Massacre 240

Bear River Massacre "at least 200"

Keyesville Massacre 35

Sand Creek Massacre "at least 160"

Yahi Massacres @200

Washita Massacre 140 plus "some women and a few children"

Marias Massacre 173

Camp Grant Massacre "more than 100)

Cypress Hills Massacre @20

Fort Robinson Massacre unspecified number killed; "fewer than 50 survivors"

Wounded Knee Massacre 128

Gee, less than 9,000 in outright massacres. Having had their numbers reduced by about 90% from White Man's diseases might have something to do with the small numbers. Then there were about 4,000 that died on the Trail of Tears. [Sort of like the Native American version of "The Bataan Death March", but involving women, children, and elderly.]

How many Native American Indians were killed by Americans? It's impossible to say because many killings were never recorded. But if you want to see the tip of the iceberg, study up on American Holocaust: The Conquest of the New World.

I give up, I'm not even going to argue with that.

Saying that we Americans worse than people such as Joseph Stalin, or Adolf Hitler.

You should be ashamed.

Also, if you saw the 4chan trollface in my post, you'd know that I was just joking.

Forgive my ignorance, but I honestly do not/did not know what that was nor what it was supposed to signify. [Think "Old fart dabbling in Internet stuff that he doesn't instinctively understand" and you will have an idea of what I speak.]

Basically it means that they are saying something they deliberately know is untrue to create negative feedback or they say something they know will annoy people to get negative feedback

Is this a generally known shorthand of sorts, like "LOL"? (Which would make me something of -- uh, more of a dunce I suppose.) See the picture and KNOW the person was being facetitious. Or is it like an inside joke that texters and forum rats would be familiar with, but not necessarily not-so-savvy people such as myself might miss?

  1. most people do not understand what a communist is

2.you cannot truly be a communist unless you live in a communist country anda re a politician since a communist citizen in a democratic country cant do communist things in any way

What ^^he^^ said. For over 60 years, most non-Communist nations have pounded into their citizens that "Communism is a system operated by some really, really, really .... ('really' many more times) BAD, awful, morally bankrupt, vicious, sadistic people." Not surprisingly, nearly all of those citizens HATE anything described as "Communist".

  1. you cannot truly be a communist unless you live in a communist country and a re a politician since a communist citizen in a democratic country cant do communist things in any way

Even if a nation's government is pointedly NOT Communist, it may still have a visible Communist Party campaigning to legally take control of the nation via the democratic process. As such, it is very much possible for any number of people to adhere to Communist philosophy, even in a non-Communist nation.

I think part of the problem here is a distinction between Communism as an abstract politcal-economic philosophy, and Communism as it was practiced in, well, pretty much any country where the Communists became the ruling party.

In the abstract, as I understand it, Communism is to economic power what Democracy is to political power - it holds that economic power should NOT be hereditary, and should be vested in the public, just as Democracy holds that political power should not be hereditary (which it is under Aristocracy).

Unfortunately, every state that the Communists have actually ruled became a repressive, one-party, totalitarian police state, or even worse (see Russia during the Great Purge, China under the Cultural Revolution, or Cambodia under Pol Pot).

Democratic Socialism, as practiced in places like Sweden, is as close as the world has gotten to Communist ideas being put into practice without disaster.

Therefore Communism (at least in the United States) has the reputation that Democracy would have if every Democracy ever set up turned out like Revolutionary France during the Terror.
