Well, while the war was still going on, the Soviet Union declared war on Japan and invaded Japanese-occupied Manchuria. In this scenario, due to the success of the Kuomintang, the Soviet Union, in support of Communist forces, keeps troops stationed in Manchuria, rather than leaving and allowing Nationalist forces to move in and finish off the Communist Chinese. The Soviet presence in Manchuria allows Communist forces to flee there for safety. The Soviets, of course, retain a military presence in Manchuria to ensure the Kuomintang-led China does not try to crush the Communist Chinese, mostly in the hopes that one day, The Communist Chinese will be strong enough to take power in China.
Does that satisfy you?
EDIT: Also, by occupying, I meant that Soviet troops were stationed in Manchuria... With consent of the Communist Chinese, of course.

Actually the correct perception is the at the Declaration of Potsdam the Soviet Union took the pledge to enter the China Theatre 3 months after the end of the war in Europe which they did. They did occupied Manchuria, and some key ports and cities until 1955. On the other hand Chiang-Kai Shek gave orders to the Kwantung Army (yes, the Japanese forces) to hold the Soviets off until they arrive, and he took the former treacherous warlords as his new chain of command locally which pissed off the populace not to mention the US who had to airlift the Nationalist troops so in the end the people supported the Communists

Oh, and I don't know how to edit the scenarios technically but to my memories the Warsaw Pact came to be in 1955 where there were only insurgency from Burma against the PRC
