To me allies never seem to help when you need it. They just move infantry squads with an attack of 6 all over the map, and they steal your land.
Just recently I played as Germany, as always, and the Soviets declare war on me as I take Romania. So I charge in there with my light tanks, hold a line until my medium tanks can break through, and I decide to be nice and liberate most of the countries I control (Hungary, Poland, the Baltic nations, and Slovakia) so they can aid me in my war. And you know what, Poland takes control of both Leningrad, and Moscow. Poland did squat besides steal my goal: to do what the mighty Napolean couldn't do.
So anyone else feel like all your allies do is steal the land that you should have?

Ugh, I feel like that all the time. A tip for Germany is to play like it's leader. Play like an evil dictator. Never liberate land, that's YOUR land! It's all yours! If you ally takes your land, and they're weak, then attack them! They can't get away with stealing your goals!
Unfortunately this usually ends up with you dead in some bunker in Berlin with your brains splattered across the wall and a 10 foot pole in your ass O_o
However, it's the best way to eliminate the allies stealing your land. Just don't have them.
Hah, I once played as Hungary (dunno if anyone remembers the AAR) where my specific goal was to take everything away from Germany's conquests without ever having to fight a battle.

i only ever ally people i can completely control. russia makes a great ally when your Germany fighting china and the allies comming in from the east.
also an interesting note, sometimes i would offer germany an alliance when they were being destroyed and germany refused so i would declare war on germany and demand they ally and it works, every time.
Also one time i was Spain and germany declared war on me, i was out numbered and outgunned by germany, so i rushed a huge tank army straight to their capital, then demanded germany ally me. their army was still way bigger than mine but taking their capital must have a huge effect because they allied me and even let me keep captured territories
basically i only ever ally someone when they are already fighting someone i fear more, or if they can kill me easily
