In playing the game, I noticed that destroyers did not have names. I found this site http://www.battleships-cruisers.co.uk/us.htm which lists warships used in the war. There are some events described by participants.

Yes you can rename them, that is the reason that I looked up the names. When playing the game I also learn a little history at the same time and try to rename the ships based on the time period they were built.

That must've been a sexy ship.
Lolz.
Back on topic, destroyers were named, just not as frequently. To name few there was DD-354 and the DD-139

Why do I name ships? In playing the game, I attempt to find out a little bit about the various fighting men and women in WW II. I live in the US and was born the same year US entered the war. By looking up information about the war, I am relearning things that happened during my life time. For the short answer, I am honoring some of the men and vessels that fought in the war (and an old guy with lots of time on his hands). This is not only a game, but a learning tool for me. Anther site listing US ships during the war: http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USN/USN-ships.html.
