While playing a couple of MH Gold scenarios I've run in this problem:
1- Britain owns Gibraltar and it's alliance is at war with Soviet Alliance which has occupied Britsh territory (e.g. Gibraltar or Malta). 2- Germany is NOT a member of British alliance, but IS at war with Soviet Union.
When attempting to take the British owned territory from the USSR, I get a warning that doing so will cause war to be declared on with the British alliance.
Is there any specific reason why this is so? Seems to me that in other cases it does not happen.

Well I see it as it's not Soviet territory, it's Soviet occupied British territory. Thus you would still be walking on British ground, and pissing them off.

Hmmm...makes sense. I Hadn't looked at it from that angle.
It certainly impacts on your strategy.
