If Making History and this game were combined somehow it would be the ultimate game...its hard to find but its cheap...I cant believe the game wasnt successful....check it out...its like a less intelligent MH combined with Total War...the graphics are superb and it has a high "fun" factor too.

It was meant to be insanely buggy. I tried the demo and it kept crashing to the desktop any time I attempted a battle and got constant freezes on the map and in battles. Lots of other people noticed this on places like Amazon as well. I would have gotten it otherwise, it looked awesome. Is it any better now? Has patches been released to make it playable?

You reminded me that I've had this one in my "To Be Played" stack since.... 10/17/2009. Can't remember why I never opened it up. Maybe I'll take a look at it soon..... [wanders off, muttering to himself]

Well, the game can be very fun at times, but I wouldn't say "you will be hooked". You'll definitely play it a couple times per week, but that's about it, some of the bugs still remain, but I that doesn't mean the game is unplayable, it's definitely playable, just not as addicting as MH.

I love the game's battles though, but the only strategies the AI uses in the RTS battles are gathering all their forces, and launching an all out Spam campaign on you. That's why I always let the AI do my battles for me, and I do that grand strategy thing.

Also, anybody have any idea how to do paratrooper attacks?

So I take the time to install the core game. Then I spend 20 minutes downloading patch 1.3 from WorthPlaying. But I go to install the patch, after the Installer loads I get the message "The installation language don't match. Installation canceled." (Btw the way, that is the syntax: "don't" instead of "doesn't".) Thinking I might have accidentally downloaded the Dpanish-language patch, I spend another 20 minutes downloading again, making absolutely positive I got the English-language version. Go to install and get the same message. Oooookay. Maybe WorthPlaying got their versions mixed. But I try two other sources for the patch 1.3, and each time I get that wrong language message.

If I was inclined to believe in omens, I would say I was being told quite loudly to NOT play this game.

The game actually was kind of alright, i guess, the main problem was how the devs made it seem like it would be an amazing clone-ish version of a WW2 Total War, which it kind of was, but it wasn't like Total War in that respect. More like a mix between a bad version of MH1 mixed with the RTS and Grand Strategy mix of Total War. THAT, was it's biggest dissapointment.

The failure of the devs to include any type of modding tools became the downfall of this game, I would've played this game much more if a map editor was included. WW1 mod ftw.

A shortage of patches, the site never being updated, and more, caused this game to slowly spiral downwards. In other cases, like where MH2 and HOI3 were both released in a stage when they shouldn't have been released, but with hard work from the devs, both games turned out to be great. This wasn't the case of War Leaders, however, if the devs had actually not abandoned the game like they did, it could've became a great game.

Also, could an admin please move this from Off-Topic to Other Games? It would seem more appropriate.

Just out of curiosity I opened up the game to see inside. It's certainly colorful, I'll give it that. However, even at high resolutions all of the lettering and figures look fuzzy. Sat through all 10 tutorials and heard one thing loud and clear: You absolutely need Oil. So I start a game as France -- and guess who has no supply of Oil? So, per the tutorial, I go to try to trade with other nations for Oil -- only to discover that I can't find where in all that mass of panels and buttons I can't find how to trade for Oil. Or for anything else, for that matter. The Finance & Trade panel just gives you your in-stock totals for about a dozen commodities. (Of which ALL of them read " 0 ".) The Diplomatic panel suggests that you can do financial exchanges, but those are entirely in the form of Loans, Credits, and Gifts.

Looking at the Battle component of the game, it looks awesome. Kind of like Total War. But just contemplating managing that many units generates the image of an amateur juggler trying to keep 50 objects in the air simultaneously. And if the tutorial is to be believed, if YOU don't direct your troops (a few of which may be put under the control of a General -- if you're lucky enough to have one there) in the battle, you will lose.

All in all, a pretty game, but one that seems like it would play out like a clusterf * .

What difficulty do you have it on? I think depending on the difficulty, they turn oil and such things off for simplification.

LOL Rookie, of course. (Where did it say, "This will be turned off on the lower Difficulty levels"?
