A death to the stack system ;)- a big question to ML...
said on Aug 31, 2010 at 12:11 PM

Dear ML guys :)- I've got only one question- is there any chance, possibility that one day (hopefully sooner than later ;)) you will go back to the system we used to have in old MH 1 where we could place our units wherever we wanted in the region instead of having them stacked in one place? Wouldn't it be easier to play (i.ex. placing units before the attack)? Any answer (yes- we will do it; no- no chance; well- maybe) would be more than a welcome...

Yea it's hard for me to tell what units are where when they are all stacked.

Maybe. We're not ruling it out.

When/If we do, it creates some interesting memory and visual issues that will need to be addressed before we move forward.

Sorry but IMO the game sucks without it.

I wouldn't say it sucks, it just is harder to see what units you got when they are all piled together.

But I get annoyed because at a glance sometimes it looks like units are in a different region because they are on a border.

I really hate when that happens. Just what in the code makes that happen?

And I was thinking about voting. Let players really decide whether they want to stick to the stack system or go back to the old placing system from MH 1...

I vote YES

My vote depends on just how much memory will be reduced.

If it ain't broke don't change it. It happens quite often in sequels that developers change things just for the sake of change. Great game but I vote YES for the old system.(DTTS)

Doesn't look like there is anyone voting against this. (or is there?)

"A death to the stack system ;)- a big question to ML... "

Seems like this is the obvious question.

Is there a certain strategy with force stacking units that I am not getting?

They're not referring to any strategy. In MH1, you had the option to 'relocate within territory.' That way, if you had 3 armies there, you saw 3 armies rather than 1 with a circle by it that you have to click to see the next one.

At least, prevent newly build units from "auto-merging" into one army.

I "love" it that when new units aren't built that they don't even appear in the stack. I had a group of Superheavy tanks just sitting around because I just thought it was just some group of infantry.

They should also make the option to show the strongest unit on top of the stack, or atleast the heaviest tank...

Good point. This is definetly something that needs addressing either with the strongest unit first or the ability to move units up and down within the stack. And another yes for the death of stacks and can we stop auto merging new builds with existing armies in the region as Draco stated.
