I am playin my first game (and this is my first post). I'm playing Italy on default level. Germany declared war with me in 1941 and I crushed them. I made them give me all their provinces, except for some they had taken in Russia which I couldn't conquer. So I couldn't anex Germany, but I did force them to give me all the "conquered territories".
However, the provinces show a Nazi flag with Italy underneath. I don't get it - are they still German? Why the flag? When I won a war with Rumania - I took all their territories so I simply anexed them. There's only 1 flag there - Italian!
So I'm a bit confused that when I don't anex... and the terms of the peace treaty are they surrender the territories I've conquered... their flag seems to remain on the territory. Can someone explain to a noob :)
Also, I gave GB $$ as a 1-shot deal... alot of $$, and it didn't affect our relationship (they still hate me). What works to better a relationship? (And don't say, become a democracy and give up most of Europe that I conquered :) ) I can't do a trade agreement with them... they claim they don't have $$ to buy anything I'm selling. And even so... I don't believe that's the only way to improve our relationship? -- Jason

Okay first of all when you occupy a nation it will display the orriginal flag then below it, it will have your flag in a red box. This means that the territories are German, but are occupied by you. But this also asks another question, are you at peace with them? Because if you took there land and are at peace with them and you signed a treaty that they would give you all occupied territories then there should be no problem.
The money thing with the UK is normal. You could give them $1 trillion and it probably won't do anything different...

Thanks Gmer. Well I did sign a treaty that they would give me all occupied territories, but I recall still seeing the 2 flags. Within 2 turns they decided to go back to war with me again, which is really dumb of them. After I beat Germany again, and make them give me all occupied territories - I'll double check and see if flags for German territories change to Italian.
I can't understand why they would be so stupid to declare war on me again after I already anihilated them and took all of Germany. Ironically, the only territories Germany has left now are Moscow and further east, hehe.
