Predictions 2011-2020:

Washington DC will fall into major anarchy when We The People turn from both GOP and Democratic parties and neither party can manage more than a plurality in both houses of Congress. This will lead to....

A "terrorist" act that dwarfs both 9/11 and the Oklahoma City bombing. The resulting fear and consternation will bestow substantial "Emergency Powers" to the government as citizens' rights are seriously abridged "for the public good. Which will lead to....

Operation of prisons and law enforcement will become THE #1 growth industry, with upwards of 20% of the population becoming incarcerated. [These incarcerations will include anyone foolish enough to publicly protest the government's excessive measures carried out in the name of "National Security".

The US will become involved in yet another war "against terrorism", this time invading Pakistan, primarily "to prevent Pakistan's nuclear stockpile falling into the hands of terrorists".

Somewhere in the world, a nuclear device will be detonated, theoretically by terrorists. It will be detonated in a sparsely populated area, "as a demonstration of our power". If that event fails to create an atmosphere of "Now, more than ever, all citizens need to rally behind the government!" then a second bomb will go off, but this time in an area populated by at least 250,000 people.

I realize that these predictions are rather ominous. My greatest fear is that it will turn out they are too conservative in just how ominous Reality will be.

Unless humans can act as individuals and stop following others like lost sheep and treat fellow humans with respect then in time we're all fucked.

I often think we're already there. It just takes awhile for the effects to kill us all off.

Oops. That was too all-inclusive. If you are Very Wealthy and/or Very Powerful, you are one of those that is VERY busy fucking the rest of us.

Predictions 2011-2020:

snip

That's a bit conspiracy theory-ish, don't you think? I find it pretty hard to believe that any government larger than a small group of people could actually orchestrate such a thing without word getting out fast. The thing is, we have hundreds of people in our government. And despite what you seem to believe, some of them are actually decent people who just want to help their country. Inevitably, one or more of these people would find out, and they'd leak this information to every major news outlet in the country. The government, of course, could do nothing, as we have not reached that Orwellian nightmare level of control just yet. And yes, in your scenario, it could happen. However, the more time that passes, the more likely someone is to discover this whole conspiracy and tell everyone they can.

And once the people find out, then the country would fall into total anarchy. There would be large riots, people would be demanding the President's head on a pike, a good deal of the army would probably desert and join them, along with a good portion of law enforcement, and then the whole country would collapse. Maybe something better would emerge out of the chaos. Maybe something worse. But by that time, American domination of the world will have ended, and another country, perhaps China, will have become the global superpower. But then, this is probably exactly what you want. Here's the thing, though. The government, if they really have their minds set on such a thing, know that there's a very good chance of something like this happening. And knowing that, would they really risk the slim power they have now in order to get more? They'd be going all or nothing, and it's much more likely they'll get nothing. So why bother?

However, the more time that passes, the more likely someone is to discover this whole conspiracy and tell everyone they can.

Yet, you are an example of why it can happen. "It can't happen that way because it would require a conspiracy. Anyone suggesting that that is what is going on is the result of a conspiracy is just another crazy conspiracy theorist nutjob." In the Electronic Age we are awash in easily accessed information. Mixed in is a LOT of mis-information. When you have two parties pointing fingers at each other, both parties saying, "They're lying!", which do you believe?

The blind faith that "Inevitably, one or more of these people would find out, and they'd leak this information to every major news outlet" is NOT any kind of safeguard. Look what has happened to Bradley Manning 9the WikiLeaker) and Julian Assange (the guy that runs WikiLeaks). How many people that learn of something dastardly occurring would/will willingly run the risk of having the Government -- with all its resources at its disposal -- coming after the leakers and the leaker's family? The WikiLeaks were essentially nothing more than embarrassing State Department memos, and you can readily see just how much the Government has stomped on Manning and Assange. Imagine just how hard the Government would stomp if something truly horrendous was exposed. What potential leaker would still risk EVERYTHING when it is much safer to just keep one's mouth shut? Especially when he knows that there will be an outcry of "Conspiracy theorist! Our government would never do something that loathsome! The evidence was obviously faked... somehow."

When it is VERY easy to confuse the facts, it becomes relatively easy to introduce "reasonable doubt". And when there is reasonable doubt, powerful people and organizations can literally get away with murder. (Even murder in wholesale lots.)

Because China doesn't support North Korea anymore, North Korea will collapse because China is North Korea's main source of living. Without China, there will be no North Korea because the country has no economy except getting aid from China.

There will be an unrest in NK over Kim Jung il's transformation of power to his son (who has no experience whatsoever in politics). North Koreans will become more disillusioned with their revolutionary government and attempt to defect into South Korea.

North Korea wouldn't last long after Kim Jung il dies. South Korea may use this to overthrow the North Korean government. The result may lead to total war on the Korean peninsula.

If there is war, do anyone think China and the US will be involved?

The US lacks the ability to wage total war.

The economy of the US collapse and China become the richest country by 2050 with the US 2nd and Japan 3rd.

China and the US engage in cyber warfare.

India's population will be higher than China's population.

China may become the 1st nation to land on mars, 2nd nation to land on moon.

The US withdraw from Afghanistan, following a stalemate.

Violence continues in the middle east.

Australia's population may reach 50 million by 2050.

China increases its influence throughout Asia and Australia.

There is a democratic reform in China but communism still becomes the main ideology.

The break between China and North Korean is limited to the fact that China will no longer come to aid North Korea militarily if North Korea starts a war. (Not just sniping over the border.) North Korean GDP amounts to between $26 billion and $40 billion annually. Of that amount, only about $1 billion comes from exports to China. Even if North Korea were to lose that much in foreign sales, it would hardly cause a ripple in the national Economy. Imports from China amount to about $1.2 billion, which once again, would not have that much of an impact were it to disappear. Which it won't, because the break between China and North Korea is political/military and not economic.

Well, the population of India is growing at a large rate, and China is taking steps to limit population growth (i.e. The one child policy), so if such a trend were to continue long enough, India would eventually surpass China. It would take decades, though, maybe even a century.

Actually, if they weren't disillusioned when Kim Il Sung handed power over to his son (KJL), they wouldn't be disillusioned now either. If there is a war, China WILL support North Korea, not so much because of the political/economical ties with N Korea, but because if North Korea was to fall, the US would be able to create military outposts and missile launch sites next to China's own border. And hell no, China won't allow that. They'll try to get things done peacefully, but if North Korea is invaded, they will come to assist.

Chinese trade with the US is very profitable. A lot of stuff we have in America is made in China these days. I doubt China would want to ruin that so Kim Jong-Il can keep being crazy.
